Sleep Apnea
Treatment
Quality sleep is essential for your overall health, yet millions of adults struggle with obstructive sleep apnea without realizing it. Sleep apnea occurs when the airway repeatedly becomes blocked during sleep, causing breathing to stop and restart throughout the night.
These interruptions can reduce sleep quality, lower oxygen levels, and contribute to serious long-term health concerns if left untreated.
At Woodruff Dental, we offer advanced screening and non-invasive treatment options to help patients breathe better, sleep more soundly, and improve their overall quality of life. Our personalized approach begins with an accurate diagnosis and continues with customized treatment designed around your unique needs. Call now to get started on your sleep study.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common form of sleep apnea and occurs when the muscles and soft tissues in the throat relax during sleep, narrowing or blocking the airway. As a result, breathing may stop dozens, or even hundreds, of times throughout the night. Common signs and symptoms include:
- Loud, chronic snoring
- Gasping or choking during sleep
- Daytime fatigue or excessive sleepiness
- Morning headaches
- Difficulty concentrating
- Dry mouth upon waking
- Poor-quality or restless sleep
Because many people are unaware their breathing is interrupted during the night, sleep apnea often goes undiagnosed until a partner notices the symptoms or a sleep study is completed.
Types of Treatment for Sleep Apnea
At Woodruff Dental, we provide modern solutions to help improve airway health and promote more restful sleep.
WatchPAT®
The WatchPAT® system is a convenient at-home sleep testing device that allows us to evaluate your sleep patterns without requiring an overnight stay in a sleep laboratory. This comfortable diagnostic tool collects valuable information that helps determine whether obstructive sleep apnea is present and guides your treatment recommendations.
NightLase®
NightLase® is a non-surgical laser therapy designed to improve airway function by gently tightening the soft tissues at the back of the throat. This comfortable treatment requires no incisions or downtime and may help reduce snoring while improving airflow during sleep for appropriate candidates.
How Do I Know If I Have Sleep Apnea?
The first step is obtaining an accurate diagnosis. If you snore regularly, wake up feeling tired, or have been told you stop breathing during sleep, a WatchPAT take-home sleep study may be recommended.
This simple and convenient test provides detailed information about your sleep so Dr. Woodruff can determine whether sleep apnea is affecting your health and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
